Well, we got through the Christmas holiday with a trip to Mom Mickey's in Seven Lakes near Southern Pines. Great meal and met a couple of her neighbors who are elderly widows, but their minds were sharp as a tack. Shared in the gift-giving and garnered a beautiful new tie, Glenn Beck's book Arguing with Idiots and a neat book simply entitled Guns. As usual it rained so we couldn't see the rest of the Seven Lakes area...guess we'll save that for next time. Saturday and Sunday were beautiful, sunny days as was today. It's nice to see ole Saul in the winter and helps the doldrums.
This week Crys is house-sitting/pet-sitting for one of her favorite clients...and enjoying the benefits of multiple flat screen TVs and an absolutely lovely home. She has it tough! I miss her around the homestead, but have a lot to do before I start back to work at the hospital tomorrow.
I've planned a surprise dinner out for New Year's Eve and Crys' birthday , which is difficult since it's 1/1... so we have to stay up and watch the Acorn drop (yep, Raleigh has its Acorn, Atlanta has its Peach....and so on) in order to make the 12:21 a.m. anniversary of her birth.
This was my last day consulting for the Board. As my work is done with the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Board, I now I have to find something less fun to do to earn some extra sheckels that is also a diversion. I've started writing a book and that will probably take up most of any extra time until it's completed. I may be able to squeeze in some target practice with the new AR-15...hmmmm.
Here's to a great week and the coming of 2010...hope it's a good one for all our friends and family. More later...

Busy week...
After attending Lodge on Monday, A Duke basketball game (standing with the students next the the band under the basket for the entire game in Cameron Indoor Coliseum) on Tuesday night, the Rotary annual Christmas Party on Thursday evening and a lodge brother's 50th wedding anniverary party on Saturday afternoon, the North Carolina Board of Veterinary Medicine -NCVMA combined office party at the RBC Center for a hockey game on Saturday night and dear friend's Christmas party at their home on Sunday evening there is no wonder why I'm "bushed".
It's about 9 p.m. and I'm about to 'hit the hay'...this week at the office is a short week with the office closing the 24th at 2 p.m. and then opening up for Friday normal hours. It's a blessing that I'm not working next Saturday...I'm sure there will be stuff to put away and planning for New Years...after all January 1 is Crystal's birthday !
Oh, by the way, Crys got to see her parents last Monday evening and they expressed happiness at the news of her engagment although (like my girls were probably thinking ) she told Crys "I didn't think you were going to do this again"... and then gushed over Crys and her ring a little more.
So much for this edition...at least we missed the big snow storm that hit the NE and that's fine because ole NC just doesn't have the equipment for such a thing...although my Hoosier roots tingle a little and do miss the white stuff for Christmas.

Engagement has it pitfalls...
It took over 2 years to happen and then when it did the problem was notifying our loved ones in a manner that noone felt slighted or left out...how do you notify both your daughters without one feeling she wasn't "the first to know" when they are BOTH first in your heart? Ole Dad decided to use the modern version of direct communication...e-mail... and that didn't work out so good. I learned that "personal information should be shared personally (by phone when it can't be in person) and upset both my girls. Well, never let it be said that "an old dog can't learn new tricks"...so having not heard a response to my email announcement I texted them to check their e-mail boxes...that didn't work out too well either...same reason....so when I finally got together with them on the phone they were underwhelmed and left old Dad wondering... Like a lot of other fellas, my ladies mystify me and I don't pretend to understand them, but I love them with all my heart and I know in their heart-of-hearts that they are happy for Crys and me.
